In 2010 Four Point Mapping surveyed and produced cycle maps for all the main towns in Dorset for Dorset County Council. Two of these – Weymouth and Dorchester – are now coming up for new editions. There has been significant changes to the network in the last two years in these towns so Four Point Mapping are undertaking a re-survey of the new cycle infrastructure.
Since our last visit in 2010 Weymouth has seen a new relief road, and has been an Olympic and Paralympic venue. The building of the relief road brought many new cycle routes. NCN26 is now complete from the Isle of Portland to Dorchester. This also forms part of the Petit Tour de Manche, a route taking in Dorset and northern France.
Dorchester has seen an increase in NCN signage as well. An alternative route from the south has been added so that cyclists can avoid the busy roundabout on the bypass.
New maps will be available in the coming months.
